Profile

Carole Bullock’s practice includes painting, etching, printmaking and drawing, and is predicated on a lifelong engagement with “line work” – linear energies seen or felt that run through everything, akin to a life force. Ideas are portrayed in the visual interplay of light and dark, in the juxtaposition of positive and negative forms.

For over four decades, Bullock has been exhibiting her work in national and international exhibitions. Bullock has taught art, art history and theory for many years, and has also worked in related arts fields such as theatre (set design, costume and make-up), publishing (designing and illustrating) and couture fashion.

Carole Bullock: A place in the landscape

Solo exhibition by established artist, Carole Bullock.

The exhibition presents a new series of Bullock’s artworks that allude to the texture of the Australian landscape, including its dense and wild spaces. These dynamic artworks produce a deliberate tension between forms of nature and ghostly figurative elements that are often only barely visible.

She says of the exhibition that:

“A place in the landscape alludes to the strength and fragility of the world around us – the texture, air and vast spaces of the Australian landscape. Ideas are portrayed in the visual interplay of light and dark, in the juxtaposition of positive and negative forms. Above all, the exhibition highlights the paradigm of place, exploring the tempestuous relationship between humankind and nature, throwing into relief our desires for a resolved future.”
